Our topic for March and April was 'once upon a time'
. we learnt all about different traditional tales including, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Pigs. We wrote stories, made wanted posters for the wolf and even drew our favourite characters. We had lots of fun planting our beanstalks and watching them grow, we kept a bean diary to document their growth and measured them every week. We loved playing in our building site role play area making lots of houses and constructions. We are looking forward to exploring our new topic 'Around the world'.

This week in school it is Integration week. We have been learning about how we are all different and special in our school. We made sun rays for our school display on 'new horizons'.
We have also been learning about different cultures as part of our Light and Dark topic.
We learnt all about Chinese New Year. This year was the year of the goat and we watched a video on how boys and girls celebrate this festival. We made Chinese dragons, danced to Chinese music with ribbons and decorated our class with Chinese banners.
Then we found out all about Diwali. We learnt that Nihal in our class celebrates this festival and he told all all about how he goes to temple and decorates his house with rangoli patterns.
We had lots of fun!

There are 29 children in our class. Our teacher is called Mrs McStay and our classroom assistant is called Meta. We are very lucky to be in a P1/2 class as we are always revising as well as picking up new things from each other! Our classroom is in the newly redecorated foundation stage area of the school. It is so bright and colourful.
In class, children are all taught at their own level. In literacy, P1 children have been introduced to the 'Jolly Phonics' programme which helps us to read and spell. We have been learning the 42 letter sounds. P2 children have been revising these sounds and have been using their knowledge of Jolly phonics to read and write.
In numeracy, P1 have been introduced to numbers and counting as well as the other areas of maths. P2 have been extending their counting as well as learning addition facts along with the other areas of maths.
Our topic areas are unique to our class, so that P2 children have not studied them before. We have covered "Home Sweet Home", "Animals in Autumn", "Toys" and "Polar regions". Our next topic is "Down in the Jungle" which will be followed by "Transport" and "At the seaside". Our topics are linked to all other areas of the curriculum.
Our days are always very busy and we always go home tired (adults included)!!!!!!!! :)
