ICT

ActivitiesPosted by Mrs McIlwrath Wed, February 07, 2018 18:39:15

Today we were working in the computer suite to complete different levels in Rainforest Coding.

It is fun to solve the problems.
Some of us worked in pairs as it is a good way to support each other if we are not confident using the computer.

ICT

In class we are learning about coding. We are learning to programme and move a Sprite across the screen. We are using a programme called Sherston Coding. This can be used at home. The username is Round , the password is tower. This programme is a good introduction to coding.

Christmas

ActivitiesPosted by Mrs McIlwrath Tue, February 06, 2018 20:21:37
Hadn't realised that I had no pictures of Primary 4 and 5 at Christmas. Sorry for the delay. Christmas in February......

Christmas treats. Yummy

Symmetry

ActivitiesPosted by Mrs McIlwrath Tue, February 06, 2018 19:49:34
Using mirrors we were able to complete a picture of a tiger. We were learning about reflective symmetry. We also used square paper to complete a symmetrical picture of a castle.

We drew and cut out different shapes and folded them to check for lines of symmetry. We discovered that the irregular shapes didn't have symmetry and that some shapes have lots of symmetry. We noticed that a circle has loads of lines of symmetry!

Castles

ActivitiesPosted by Mrs McIlwrath Tue, February 06, 2018 19:37:34
Our topic is Castles. We talked about the first castles built and who made them, why they were made and what they were made from. We decided that although living in a castle sounded luxurious, we soon realised that life could be hard. The buildings were often cold. Children were left to amuse themselves. There was a constant fear of attack AND there was NO flushing toilet!

We wrote adverts to sell our castles. We focused on modern castles and used our imagination to create castles that would appeal to people today. Some of our castles had cinema rooms, hot tubs and saunas, champagne fountains, swimming pools and even a zoo.

When writing our advert, we were aware that we had to use interesting adjectives which would help sell our castle. We had to include a picture that would capture the interest of the buyer and set out clearly the asking price. We were encouraged to use bullet points and commas and write using short phrases. Some of us forgot to include an email address or phone number so that the buyer could contact the seller. We now realise how important this is on an advert.

Fractions

ActivitiesPosted by Mrs McIlwrath Tue, February 06, 2018 19:16:52
We are learning about fractions. We are focusing on halves and quarters. We know that in order to find a fraction of a number, we must count all shapes/pictures first and then sort them into groups. We know that to find half of a shape/ number we share between two. We share into four groups when using quarters. An easy way to find a quarter of a number is to half the whole number and then half again.

We made pizza fractions in class. We had to find a fraction of a number of pepperoni pieces and place them on the pizza. We all worked on different fractions eg 1/2 1/4 1/3 1/5. We stuck little counters on to represent the topping. They looked good enough to eat!

New year.
